In psychoanalysis, a form of narcissism involving cathexis of the self with the whole of the libido in an early phase of development. The British-based Austrian psychoanalyst Melanie Klein (1882–1960) and her followers rejected the concept, arguing that object-relationships are evident from the earliest stages of sucking.
