The general subject of a group of plays written about 1540–75, showing the influence of the continental neo‐classic writers of the period. The chief of these are Misogonus (c.1560, author unknown), Jacke Jugeler (?1562), and Gascoigne's Glasse of Government (1575). The parable of the Prodigal Son is in Luke 15: 11–32.
