A Doppler radar designed to determine the velocities and directions of winds throughout the air column above its site, and thus to derive a vertical wind profile. In addition, such instruments are potentially able to determine vertical motion, turbulence, and the location of the tropopause. Some installations also include a microwave radiometer, which provides temperature and humidity profiles.
