Quick Reference

Highly conserved membrane proteins. Prohibitin-1 (272 aa) has antiproliferative and tumour suppressor activities, and mutations have been linked to sporadic breast cancer. Prohibitin 2 (repressor of oestrogen receptor activity, REA, 299 aa) is involved in transcriptional repression by nuclear hormone receptors. The prohibitin homology domain (PHB domain) is evolutionarily conserved and proteins with this domain have affinity for lipid raft domains.
