(PCNA)

A nuclear protein (261 aa) first identified as a marker for proliferating cells, later shown to be an auxiliary factor for DNA polymerases δ and ε that are involved in repair and replication. Transcription of PCNA is modulated by p53. PCNA-associated factor (PAF, p15PA, overexpressed in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma-1, OEATC-1, 111 aa) constitutively associates with the tumour suppressor p33ING1B. PCNA is well conserved between plants and animals and there are homologues in prokaryotes.
