prosentential theory of truth

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Theory promoted by Dorothy Grover and others, according to which ‘that is true’ or ‘S is true’ stands in for a sentence, in a way parallel to that in which a pronoun stands in for a noun phrase or name. The truth predicate therefore does not say something about a sentence, but enables us to avoid repeating it.

Subjects: Philosophy.
