A protein (508 aa) from the cell wall of Staphylococcus aureus that binds the Fc region of most classes of immunoglobulin and can be used to affinity-purify immunoglobulins from serum (or culture medium in the case of monoclonal antibodies) and, especially when coupled to label, to detect antibody. It is a very effective B-cell mitogen.
