Quick Reference

Dietary deficiency, especially during growth phases of early childhood, has some pronounced and obvious effects, including stunting of growth in infancy and childhood and impaired development, as seen in kwashiorkor. In adults, protein deficiency causes metabolic disruption, impaired immune response, edema, and diverse other clinical manifestations.

Subjects: Public Health and Epidemiology.
