A multifunctional protein (cellular thyroid hormone-binding protein, EC 5.3.4.1, 504 aa) that catalyses the formation, breakage, and rearrangement of disulphide bonds. At high concentrations it functions as a chaperone by inhibiting the aggregation of misfolded proteins but at low concentrations it may have the opposite effect. It is a structural subunit of various multisubunit enzymes such as prolyl 4-hydroxylase and microsomal triacylglycerol transfer protein.
