Quick Reference
A generic term for paranormal phenomena, including especially extra-sensory perception (telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition) and psychokinesis. It is often preferred to more specific terms on the ground that it is difficult or impossible to distinguish between alternative manifestations of psi, as when an apparent demonstration of telepathy in a card-guessing experiment could be explicable by clairvoyance (paranormal perception of the cards themselves rather than of the sender's thoughts) or psychokinesis (paranormal control of the order of the cards during the shuffling process). [Named after psi (Ψ), the 23rd letter of the Greek alphabet, alluding to the adjective psychic or psychical]
