Widespread family of small moths with few species. Adults are characterized by the division of the wings into plumes. Superficially they resemble the Alucitidae, but the fore wings are cleft into two, three, or four, and the hind wings into three. Some species have undivided wings. Larvae are external or internal feeders, particularly on Asteraceae.
