An anonymous sample of records from the decennial population census. In the United States, these have been made available to researchers from the 1960 Census onwards, at the 1 per cent and 0.1 per cent levels. Following practice in the United States, similar data-tapes have been released in Canada, and—since 1991—in Britain (where they are termed SAR, or Samples of Anonymised Records).
