A phenomenon in which irregularities in interstellar matter broaden the pulses from a pulsar by scattering the radio waves. Pulse broadening is more pronounced at lower radio frequencies, and takes the form of a characteristic ‘tail’ to the pulse. It is closely related to interstellar scintillation.
