A calcium-dependent proline-rich tyrosine kinase (focal adhesion kinase 2, FAK2, 1009 aa), with 42% identity to focal adhesion kinase 1, that is activated by tyrosine phosphorylation triggered by binding of neuropeptides or elevation of cellular calcium. It is activated in neurons following NMDA receptor stimulation and is thought to be involved in hippocampal long-term potentiation.
