Egyptian Islamic activist and ideologue. Calls for collective awakening of Arab-Islamic identity and reestablishment of the universal caliphate as a visible sign of Muslim unity. Calls on Muslims to reject corruption and Western ideologies. Sees the contradiction between Islamic ideals and un-Islamic reality as the cause of rebellion and violence in youth. Rejects both religious and secular extremism as distortions of the image of Islam. Condemns violence. Proposes moderate leadership, both spiritually and politically, directed toward broader Islamic goals. Opposed to recognition of Israel or giving up any part of Jerusalem.
