One of a family of RNA-binding proteins with a KH domain embedded in a GSG domain. QK1 is the human homologue of the mouse quaking mutation, which causes body tremor and severe dysmyelination. Other members of this family include SAM68. It regulates the mRNA levels of several genes involved in oligodendrocyte differentiation and maturation in the human brain and may be a candidate gene associated with schizophrenia.
