For the purposes of the Child Support Act 1991 (see child support maintenance), a child who is under the age of 16, or under the age of 19 and receiving full-time education, and who has not been married. This definition applies only to “natural” children (i.e. children of both parties) or adopted children; it does not include stepchildren. See also child of the family.
