(QIA)

A non‐departmental public body set up in 2006 whose role is to monitor and raise standards of teaching and learning across the learning and skills sector. It succeeded the Learning and Skills Development Agency in England, taking over many of its functions and its personnel. In the 2006 White Paper Further Education: Raising Skills, Improving Life Chances, the QIA received its government briefing to lead the National Improvement Strategy for further education. Partners in this Strategy include, among others, the Learning and Skills Council, the Adult Learning Inspectorate, Ofsted, Lifelong Learning UK, the Centre for Excellence in Leadership, and the Department for Education and Skills.
