1 Blocks attached to the quarter bands of the yards of square-rigged ships. They are used to turn down to the deck running rigging, such as the sheets of an upper sail and clew lines of the lower sail, that runs along the yard.

2 Blocks on the deck on each side of the stern to take the mainsail or spanker sheets, or to take the sheets of light headsails such as spinnakers. For illus. see yard.
