Quick Reference

Ballet divertissement in one act with choreography and libretto by Perrot and music by Pugni. Premiered 13 Jun. 1848 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London, with Fanny Cerrito (Spring), Carlotta Grisi (Summer), Carolina Rosati (Autumn), and Marie Taglioni the younger (Winter). It was the fourth in the series of divertissements created by Perrot for Her Majesty's Theatre, the previous three being Pas de quatre, Le Jugement de Pâris, and Les Éléments. Like them, Les Quatre Saisons was a dancing contest between star ballerinas, whose on-stage rivalry was often matched by similar competition backstage.

Subjects: Dance.
