A Russian satellite, with international collaboration, for very long baseline interferometry, launched in 2011 July. It carries a 10-m dish, consisting of a solid 3-m diameter centre with 27 surrounding petals which unfurl in orbit. RadioAstron works in conjunction with radio telescopes on the ground to provide baselines up to 350 000 km, the satellite's apogee.
