Danish dancer and director. She studied at the Royal Danish Ballet School making her stage debut as a child in 1933 and joining the Royal Danish Ballet in 1940. A vivacious, musical dancer, she was one of the finest exponents of the Bournonville style of her era. After retiring from the stage in 1962 she travelled the world producing Bournonville ballets and was associate director of the RDB (1978–88). She also choreographed several ballets, including The Door (mus. Bentzon, for RDB, 1962). She was married to the dancer Borge Ralov and then to the dancer Fredbjørn Bjørnsson. In 1953 she was made Knight of Dannebrog (elevated to First Grade in 1978) and in 1981 she was accepted into the Icelandic Order of the Falcon. She wrote The Bournonville School (1978).
