The festival celebrating the birthday of Rāma, held on the ninth day of the month of Caitra (March–April). In some areas it is a nine-day festival, coinciding with the spring festivities (Vasantotsava), or Holī. The Rāmcaritmānas is continuously recited in the days leading up to the festival, and there are ratha yātrās of Rāma, Sītā, Lakṣmaṇa, and Hanumān, the latter being a particular focus of attention. In modern times, Ayodhyā has attracted huge crowds for this event.
