A peptide antibiotic that sequesters lipid intermediates involved in peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Ramoplanin is structurally related to two lipodepsipeptide antibiotics that also interfere with wall synthesis, janiemycin and enduracidin, and is functionally related to lantibiotics and glycopeptide antibiotics (e.g. vancomycin and teicoplanin).
