A method of rewarding experimental participants or subjects for taking part in a research study by using a chance device. For example, participants may be rewarded with points or tokens on the understanding that one in ten of them, selected at random, will be paid at a specified rate for the points that they accumulate. This technique is supposed to save money while retaining a real financial incentive for the participants.
