The extent and depth of knowledge, skills, or understanding, and the contexts in which the learner must be able to apply these. In this specific sense, it is part of the terminology originally used in the assessment of General National Vocational Qualifications, where elements of achievement were required to be demonstrated across a range. A range statement was a list of contexts in which the elements should or could be demonstrated. Reference to a range, therefore, was a means of refining and clarifying the objectives or outcomes of the learning in order to aid the assessor in their task.
