Graz Opera 1932–7, Prague 1937–9. Settled in Eng. 1939. Mus. dir. new CG Opera Co. 1946–51. Prin. cond. Scottish Nat. Orch. 1952–7. Mus. dir. Elizabethan Opera Trust, Sydney, NSW, 1958–60. Wrote 8 syms., oratorio, str. qt., and opera Deirdre of the Sorrows.
