The procession of a Vaiṣṇava image on a wooden chariot (ratha), usually with solid wooden wheels and an architecturally elaborate superstructure. The most celebrated example of a ratha-yātra is the annual festival of Jagannātha, during which a 16-wheeled, 14-metre high, temple-shaped vehicle is used to pull the image of Jagannātha through the streets of Purī.
