Quick Reference

A force that is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to some other force, in accordance with Newton's third law of motion. If a body A exerts a force on body B, then B exerts an equal and opposite force on A. Thus, every force could be described as ‘a reaction’, and the term is better avoided, although it is still used in such terms as ‘reaction propulsion’.
