A simple agent which reacts to stimuli and provides a simple service to a user. Examples include an agent which informs a user when an email has arrived, an agent which informs a user when a meeting is due to start, an agent which emails a user when a Web site has been updated, and an agent which informs a user when a book has arrived in a bookshop and is being dispatched. Such agents are very easy to program and are becoming very common on the Internet.
