A set of proteins encoded by rec(recombination) genes and involved in genomic repair and recombination in all organisms. RecA (339 aa) aligns a single strand of DNA with a duplex DNA and mediates a DNA strand switch; recB, C, and D are subunits of the helicase that unwinds and fragments double-stranded DNA allowing recA to bind single-stranded fragments.
