A change in the direction of the path of a tropical cyclone towards the north-east (in the northern hemisphere) or south-east (in the southern). Following recurvature, which often occurs at latitudes 20–30° and carries the systems over cooler waters, tropical cyclones frequently degenerate into deep mid-latitude depressions.
