Quick Reference

Observed proper motion multiplied by a scaling factor to reduce it to a standard distance. For example, the relative distances of a sample of stars such as Cepheid variables can be derived from photometry, and their observed motions can be scaled to some adopted standard distance. This gives a scale model of linear velocities.
