Roman tableware produced in great quantity from a fine red terracotta body covered with a smooth iron‐rich slip fired at about 950 °C in clear oxidizing conditions to produce a fine red‐coloured glossy finish. The most widespread kind of red gloss ware is Samian ware or terra sigillata.
