Quick Reference

A square knot formed of two half hitches in which the ends always fall in line with the outer parts. It is used when it is required to join two pieces of rope, particularly if they are of an equal thickness, and, of course, when tying reef-points. It is one of the commonest and most useful knots used at sea.
