Is a member of a profession or occupation who reflects on their work activity, in order to identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop new and more effective means of performing their work role. The process of continuous professional development is aimed at producing reflective practitioners of this type. A common method that is used to encourage reflection is the keeping of a learning diary, which records events, how they were dealt with in actuality and how they might have been dealt with more effectively. The diary can also be used to identify training and learning needs. Such a learning diary can form the basis of a dialogue with a mentor.
