Quick Reference

A mouse autosomal recessive mutant, deficient in reelin and with disruption in large areas of the brain. Reelin, a large extracellular protein, is secreted by Cajal–Retzius cells in the forebrain and by granule neurons in the cerebellum. The reeler mouse has been proposed as a neurodevelopmental model for certain neurological and psychiatric conditions; the structural features of the brain most closely resemble those of patients with Norman–Roberts lissencephaly (lissencephaly 2).
