Quick Reference

Established in America in the early 18th century by German, Swiss, and French settlers, was known officially until 1869 as the German Reformed Church. Its origin stems from the works of Zwingli, Calvin, and Melanchthon, and the Heidelberg Catechism of 1563 is still its standard for Scriptural instruction. In 1793 it declared itself independent of the Classis of Amsterdam, and at later dates it has been allied with other reformed churches in America.
