A set of coherent, socioemotional roles that are often adopted by the different members of a group in order to sustain good working relationships within the group. Some commonly identified roles of this kind include the encourager, who provides praise and reassurance; the harmonizer, who mediates between those with opposing views; the gatekeeper, who maintains the channels of communication and makes sure that everyone's view is heard; and the comedian, who uses humour to relieve stress and lift morale.
