The ability to recognize the pitch of a tone (1), or to produce a tone at its correct pitch, by referring it to a tone of known pitch. Thus a person with relative pitch who is presented with a C and told that it is a C can recognize another tone as an F or can hum an F. Compare absolute pitch.
