Syn: kidney stones. A condition in which some salts excreted by the renal system, e.g., calcium oxalate, crystallize out in urine, often because of inadequate fluid intake. This causes the acutely painful condition of renal colic and sometimes leads to renal damage, renal hypertension, and renal failure with uremia, i.e., metabolic poisoning.
