Quick Reference

Manorial accounts and estate records sometimes include details of rents collected each year, usually at Lady Day and Michaelmas, though sometimes at Christmas and Midsummer. These normally give only the tenants’ names and the amounts of rent paid. It is often the case that the person who actually occupied the property was a subtenant who is not recorded.
