Quick Reference

A nucleotide polymerase that replicates DNA or RNA molecules. In nature, DNA replicases require an RNA primer. RNA replicases do not require primers, and this is one reason for speculating that the first replicating molecule was RNA, not DNA. See DNA polymerase, polymerase chain reaction, primer RNA, replication of DNA, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
