reserved seat

Quick Reference

A stipulation that a place or places on trade union executive committees are reserved for women or members of minority groups. Reserved seats are used by trade unions to increase the presence of women and minorities in important policymaking forums and correct their under-representation in the past. They form part of a wider reform of union government designed to provide greater voice for women and other groups whose interests previously have been marginal to union concerns.
