An exercise against an additional resistance. Resistance exercises include running up a hill or on sand, carrying additional weights (see weight training) during exercise, and moving against an added drag force (see speed chute).

Pulling against an elastic exercise band is a form of resistance exercise. Bands vary in tension so that the intensity of exercise may be controlled. A band is easily attached to a stable piece of furniture, such as a table leg, and can be used to strengthen or rehabilitate specific muscles.
