Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An oncogene (rearranged during transfection proto-oncogene) that encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase which forms part of the complex (GFRα1, RET, and NCAM) through which glial-cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) acts. Autosomal dominant gain-of-function mutations cause hereditary medullary thyroid carcinoma; loss-of-function mutations are associated with Hirschsprung's disease and some ret mutations are associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia.
