Is the process of teaching employees new skills so that they can be redeployed in the organization. It is particularly relevant where changes in technology have meant that employee skills have become obsolete. Retraining is an alternative to redundancy, although managers might not deem it appropriate to offer retraining to employees, preferring instead to recruit skilled staff from the external labour market. Similarly, some employees might be unwilling or unable to retrain, and might prefer to accept a redundancy payment and seek similar work elsewhere.
