A spacecraft used by crew members to return to Earth, usually from a space station. For instance, the return vehicle for the first resident crew of the International Space Station was the space shuttle Discovery, after its arrival at the station with the second crew. The term ‘return vehicle’ is also used for the X-38 crew return vehicle (CRV).
