(RLV)

A launch vehicle that can be recovered, reconditioned, and reused. The space shuttle's solid rocket boosters burn out and fall away two minutes after blast-off, and parachutes open to slow the boosters' descent into the Atlantic Ocean. They are recovered about 280 km off the coast by waiting tugboats and returned to the Kennedy Space Center and prepared for future flights.
