Old Catholic theologian. In 1870 he opposed the infallibility decrees of the First Vatican Council and in 1872 he was excommunicated on his refusal to subscribe. He then took a leading part in organizing the Old Catholic Church and in arranging the Bonn Conferences of 1874 and 1875. When the Old Catholics abandoned clerical celibacy in 1878, Reusch protested and retired into lay communion.
